Chandni Bar was a good, though depressing film. Tabu is Mumtaz, a young girl, who comes to Mumbai with her wastrel uncle after her parents have been killed in communal riots. Man, this movie was very depressing. But it was also VERY well made. :)

I have not seen this one - I was pregnant and J said it is worth missing becaus it would depress me completely. My favourite Tabu movie is Gulzaar's maachis, an excellent movie on terrorism in Punjab.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to see if I can find that one. Chandni Bar sure is depressing, but I think Tabu's performance makes it worth watching at least once. Her journey from an innocent young girl into a woman who has been hardened by her life experiences is very well portrayed.
