What to watch?

I've been thinking of watching a Chinese drama for some time now, but they all seem to have a million episodes and endless angst, and in the end, rocks fall, everyone dies. At the moment I'm contemplating between two dramas: Jade Palace Lock Heart and Holy PearlJPLH has the advantage that it is already finished and fully subbed, whereas Holy ( Read more... )

Actually, it's based on Inu Yasha, not Fushigi Yuugi, though I'd say there are some plot elements a bit more in line with FY.

I've only seen the first 6 episodes of Holy Pearl, but it's pretty fun so far.

Holy Pearl is actually based on Inu Yasha, not Fushigi Yuugi. (Though we're still in the "schoolgirl travels to past" territory.)

Off the top of my head, some fully subbed dramas that you can find online and that i would classify as having a happy/positive ending are:

Sword Stained With Royal Blood
Paladins in Troubled Times
Return of the Conder Heroes
Patriotic Knights
Princess Returning Pearl (older, but fun)
Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei (I didn't care much for the latest batch of episodes I watched though)
Legend of the Condor Heroes (I haven't seen it yet, but I know the story)

I also highly recommend Young Warriors of the Yang Clan, which isn't "rocks fall, everybody dies" so much as "most of the men die and then the women won the war I'M SORRY BUT HISTORY SAID WE HAD TO KILL THEM OK?" and Fairies of Liao Zhai, which is an anthology supernatural/horror series in which I'd classify the endings as "bittersweet" because while they aren't necessarily "happy" endings, the heroine's achieve their goals or find closure.

My bad, I wanted to make a quick poll and remembered it was based on a manga which I'd never read, and FY just jumped into my mind. Thank you very much for the recommendations!
