The Vampire Diaries started out as a pretty generic teen vampire show, but after a few episodes it started to get more interesting. The characters and the stories gained more depth and suddenly this show turned out pretty addictive watching.
I just watched the season finale, and OMG, can't wait to see Season 2 :).

He is my favourite character, despite being completely unrepentantly amoral.
Isn't it crazy? He is (was) a genuine sociopath yet he's one of the most well-rounded characters in the show.
Elena and Bonnie are best friends, but as both learn new things, have new secrets, have new relationships, they learn that friendships doesn't always account for everything.
You know what I love? How the strain in their friendship isn't because they're fighting over boys or jealous/insecure of each other -- it's because their morals are taking them in different directions. How often do you see something like that in female friendships? Especially between teen girls? Just another way TVD is heads above the crowd.

Completely agree with you! Also, I read this amusing comment on the books vs. the tv series earlier today when someone was asking whether to read them or not: "Why spoil a good tv series with a really bad book series?" :D
I think Damon still is quite the sociopath, but now he has people he cares about and is willing to protect even if it costs him. Still, I wonder what will happen once he learns about Katherine - he might well go on a rampage of some kind.
Yes! on the Elena/Bonnie friendship!
