Fruits Basket anime?

Is the Furuba anime worth checking out? I like the manga a lot, but how is the animated version? I'm asking because I spotted the Finnish/Scandinavian box set of the anime fairly cheaply at a store recently and was wondering whether I should get it or not.

I have mixed feelings on the anime - I saw it well before I read the manga, and Tohru drove me insane in it, with all the gasping and huge eyes and the big insipid Mary Stu-ish-ness of her character (though I did find her undeniably sweet at the same time, and I don't object to her in the manga). But I did fall in love with a lot of the other characters, and it impelled me to check out the manga. So I think it's probably worth a try!
