After waiting a few months, the local library finally loaned me a copy of (42.) Fruits Basket 16 by Natsuki Takaya. Volumes 17-19 should be available a bit faster, since hold lines for them are shorter....

Yup, Machi will fit right in with the Sohmas, won't she? (Honestly, I'm just happy that Yuki is finally doing something besides be admired by everyone and a third wheel in Kyo/Tohru.)

I'm told that Akito eventually becomes more likable and even sympathetic, but...seriously, the woman is a physical, sexual, and emotional abuser who takes delight in her abuse and expects to be loved for it. How she could ever be considered a sympatheyic character is beyond me.

Yes, I'm also happy that there is finally some other potential relationship available for Yuki so that he doesn't have to remain the perpetual third wheel.

I just can't imagine how Akito could ever turn into someone likable and sympathetic. Her actions this far have totallly alienated me and whatever her sob story, I will still judge her based on her actions.

She has only been shown as cruel, childish, possessive and unreasonable thus far, so how could she suddenly turn into someone we are supposed to like? :P

I think I could swallow Akito's sob story if it weren't for the fact that she seems to fully believe other's SHOULD suffer. If it were that she didn't realize how much it hurt others, I could at least see where she was coming from a bit, but she does it deliberately.
