Om Shanti Om, Lucky - No Time for Love and Jet Lag

Apr 12, 2008 18:07

I had a fun day yesterday with Old Schoolfriend. We met for lunch and went to this Nepalese restaurant she knew. The food was delicious. Afterwards we went to her place for one of our irregular movie nights.

Yesterday's movies were Om Shanti Om, Lucky: No Time for Love and Jet Lag (or Décalage Horaire). Even though the plot in Farah Khan's OSO was ( Read more... )

the B-grade action picture
Dude, it wasn't b-grade. It was a South-Indian action film. Though I guess it looked b-grade since it was a faked film-shoot.

I almost want the DVD just for the Filmfare sequence. Too funny.

And I almost forgot about Mohabbat Man. That should totally be a movie.

I stand corrected. I've seen only a few Southie films, so I completely missed that reference.

I loved the Filmfare sequence! :D

OMG, the B-grade movie was making fun of Tamil films. Which is HILARIOUS if you're a Southie. Either that, or really insulting. ;) But I thought it was loltastic. :D

Lucky would have been so much better if Sneha could actually act. :P I like her and all, but she REALLY can't act.

Yes, Sneha couldn't act (I think it was her first film role) *and* I really disliked her character as well. Though I guess I should make allowances for the girl's youth and on the (probably very) sheltered life she had led before she was suddenly thrown into very extremely circumstances. Anybody could be overwhelmed in a situation like that. But I still think the girl was too helpless and showed strong tendencies of being TSTL :P.

And I'm using an Aish icon, because Sneha does look a bit like Aishwarya :).

Never heard of Jet Lag. I saw Lucky a few years ago and besides thinking Sneha Ullal looked like Aishu I didn't find it memorable.

Oh but I luuuuuurved Om Shant Om. Everything was fantastic and it was SUCH a good self-parody sort of thing. My favourite scene was the filmfare awards...I could watch that 1000 times XD

Oh and it wasn't a b'grade film...it was a parody of kollywood(tamil cinema) but it's easily missable and TBH kollywood does seem a bit b-grade bollywood to me:)

Yes, Lucky was pretty forgettable.

The Filmfare sequence was such a wonderful parody of the real thing, I absolutely loved it. And I agree that it deserves to be watched more than a few times. Now I kind of want to see Akshay's "Return of Khiladi" XD.

Yes, I missed that reference to Tamil films, since I've only seen a couple of them.

What is Om Shanti Om about? I have been recommended by a Bollywood loving friend to watch it ;)

Well, as I said, the plot is very sketchy and the film itself isn't that much about the story. The film starts in the 1970s where Shahrukh Khan's character Om is a struggling film extra who wants to become a star. He has a crush on Shantipriya, the big female star of the day, and through an accident manages to befriend her. She, however, doesn't return his feelings. She is killed, while Om tries to save her ( ... )
