Yet another massive reading post

Now that I have my computer working again, I finally have time to write yet another massive reading post. I do have computer access at work, but if I tried writing anything there, I would be constantly interrupted by the incoming calls and couldn't really concentrate on what I was trying to say. Okay, this isn't that coherent either, but at least I ( Read more... )

Furuba sounds like cutesy-poo fun and games on its covers, but actually it's amazingly angsty, and often in a good way. Later on, the romantic pair-ups get tedious - there's a theory that the mangaka was pressured to make things a little more conventional.

Hatsuharu and Shigure remain my favorites!

Yes, even the first volumes show that there are very dark undertones to all the cutesy fun that is shown on the surface. There are constant hints to emotional manipulation and even actual violence by certain character(s) that give a very disturbing feel to the manga. The constant feeling of fear and opression doesn't go away even though Tohru is a completely Pollyanna character :).

Re: 152. I can spoil you as I read a bit ahead :)

Re: Fruits Basket. OMG. Yes. I was addicted to this manga like there was no tomorrow.

And oh yeah, FB has some horrifyingly dark stuff later on.

Thanks, but I prefer to remain unspoiled :).

Yes, I noticed your addiction as well as a few other f-listers comments on it, which made me check it out. And I'm glad, because it looks very intriguing .

Personally I like the FMA anime more. The plot twists and development constantly kept me on edge. The manga seems a little bland compared to that, but it really is quite compelling as well and is another interesting version of the story. ;)

Wow. The library has all the Furuba volumes (that have been released! XDD
Fruits Basket is great combination of fluff, angst, cuteness and comedy.. as others have mentioned before it does get much more serious later on. ;)
Ah, I don't like Akito either. XDDD (please tell me, you adore Kyo, though! XDD)

I never quite got into The Wallflower. I bought the 1st volume, but that was it.. is it worth reading further?? (as in: it gets better??)

Okay, I'll have to check out the FMA anime properly one day. I started watching it when it began here, but then I missed quite a few episodes and stopped :/. But I did like the little I saw.

Yes, I like all the main characters at this point except for Akito.

Hmm, if you didn't like the first volume, I suspect you wouldn't like the rest either, since Book 1 was what immediately hooked me :).

Yeah, better that way. There's really no point in missing (m)any eps, since they all (or almost all) play quite an important part in the plot. I actually watched almost half way before the story got me addicted to it. ;)

:D

Okay, thanks for that. :D It's not that I didn't like it, it just just didn't seem like anything special. It was fairly interesting, but not enough. :)
