Sigh, why do I always procrastinate with my reading reports? I guess part of it has been the changes at work - I've been too tired to write anything much, and the other thing is that some of my recent reading included some all-time favourites and I wanted to do a proper entry on them instead of just a brief mention in passing ( Read more... )

Still, after 13 books, I think it's high time we already had some sort of resolution in Stephanie's relationships with the two men in her life

I gave up on that with I think book 7. Largely, I think, because while I liked Ranger a lot as a character, I didn't like him as a love interest for Stephanie. He seemed to care about her as a friend, but not want a relationship with her, just sex, while Joe seemed to really love her(and be far superior relationhip material)

Yes, Morelli is definitely better relationship material (Ranger might be good for a short hot fling), but it's Stephanie who is having trouble deciding, so there is no way how it will go. Still, this can't go on for long now. I'm starting to get really tired of it.

I honestly wonder if there was ever actually meant to be a triangle at first, or if she wrote it in because the fans liked Ranger. If I remember the first few books right, Stephanie wasn't really interested in Ranger for a while, and then she was. If it weren't for the triangle, I'd probably still be nuts for the series.

Well, Joe was also not good relationship material in the beginning - and along with that increasing ability of his to commit to her has come an increasing tendency to run her life. I think. (Hi Megan - friend of Tarja's!)

I haven't read this one yet, which is making me feel -- guilty about ignoring my guilty pleasure? I do agree that Evanovich is milking the triangle (?) over far too many books.

Gosh you manage to read so much. That's commendable. :D
I'd wish to as well..

Interesting... I really like Meg Cabot's books, so I'd be prepared to read anything like that. Ah, it's so hard to be original nowadays especially when it comes to books for teens and young people.

Ah! I miss the Stephanie Plum books! The last one I read when I was still in high school... it was prob. book 8...
Oh gosh.. the relationships. I remember liking Ranger. XDD

Well, I've always been a fast reader and since I have a 30-45 commute one way every day, I manage to cram quite a lot of reading into that time.

Heh, the Stephanie Plum books are still very enjoyable (I got this one through the library - they have the rest of the series as well...).

Oh gosh. You travel by.. train?
That's actually a great way to spend you time. :D

Great! I need to pay another visit there. :D I've only bought one myself, but the rest I borrowed as well. :D

It depends a bit. I usually use at least two things to travel. It might be bus-bus, bus-train or train-bus, depending on what time of day it is and how the connections work out. Sometimes it's even bus-train-bus... But whatever the combination, my trip to work and home usually takes abotu 40-45 minutes.

I haven't come across anyone who's read Opal Mehta as well! I snapped it up when I saw it second-hand because it was withdrawn by the publisher. The scandal was very, very specific - terms and lines lifted almost straight from two other books by Megan McCafferty (Sloppy Firsts and something or other Seconds). I'd never heard of those but a lot of people said McCafferty is really good. There were many lists of the passages. I thought Opal Mehta was pretty mediocre even if it had been original chick-lit.

I SO have to reread the first Hodgell and get the other ones. Fun seeing what you've read!

Thanks for more details on the plagiarism scandal! I, too, thought this book very mediocre, but since I got it free froma friend, I decided to read it anyway.

The Hodgell books are really really good! Much recommmended!

I love the Kencyr books, too -- I'm due for another reread! Pat Hodgell is a friend of a friend (they were in graduate school togehter).

A contract with -- Baen! How spookily appropriate. Well, ok, her spelling is Bane (Jame's half brother, or as someone said, her half-decesed half-brother).

I hope Bane shows up in the storyline again. He is such a marvellous and horrifying character ... . I love him greeting Kindrie in Kindrie's vision: "Welcome to the family, little cousin." Such a terrifyingly gentle thing for him to say ... .

Bane is a very creepy character, but so are quite a few others of Jame's acquaintance. I wonder when Keral is going to make another appearance. And I'm sure the Master wasn't at all please with the Mistress's disappearance...

Jame tends to bring destruction and disruption with her, wherever she goes, so I can't wait to see where she'll go next. Will she continue at Tentir, where she has actually found a place or will she move on?
