In preparation for re-introduction to the wilderness of Windows

Okay. So by January if not by christmas, I'll have a PC laptop....I know tons of programs for Mac OS X to tweak, hack, and enhance the computer. I know less for Windows. So I'm downloading alot of stuff now. Here are the things I have so far.

Thunderbird

The GIMP
Trillian
iTunes & QuickTime

Ad-Aware SE

Welcome to the mostly charted and risky world of Windows. As far as programs go, your best friend for free stuff is Download.com because you can find anything you need. I also reccomend Eraser, Spybot Search & Destroy for spyware removal, Encrypted magic folders, and zipgeius for compression. I will leave more comments on how to better deal with menace of Microsoft. I got allot of the programs listed above from Download.com as well as VersionTracker, TuCows, etc. Including SpyBot Search & Destroy. Oh, and you can't forget SourceForge. ZipGenius looks handy, I downloaded it. I'll have to try it out.

Encrypted Magic Folders looks nice but I already have AxCrypt for file encryption and if I want to encrypt a whole drive or specific directories I have TrueCrypt which are both free/open source. I still can't get Eraser though for some reason. Thanks for the recommendations.
