If you google "pdf to jpg converter" something might come up. Otherwise, a valid (but slowwww) alternative is print screening and then pasting and cropping the image in something as basic as Paint and then saving that file.
The print and crop option is something I might consider as a last resort (I'd rather stay paperless and save some trees). But thanks for the idea. I'll keep it in mind.
You can use Photoshop to convert the PDFs to JPG, if you have it.
As for the CBR files, they are just fancy named archive files, so you can open them with WinRAR (ETA: Or whatever the Mac OS equivalent is. It just hit me you're working in Final Cut) and extract the image files.
Well, I do my vidding on my MacBook laptop, but I do also have a PC desktop with WinRAR. And your suggestion works! The panels come out as jpg files. Just perfect! Thanks.
I also have a version of Photoshop on the Mac. So I'll try that on the PDFs next.
I suggest downloading Gimp which is an open source image editing program with many of the same features of photoshop. That should enable you to convert the PDFs into a range of formats and you can also crop the images to select the bits you want.
Just a random driveby comment, but I find Seashore somewhat easier to deal with than Gimp. I think I've mostly used .png for importing to FCE.
I'm sure you're long since done with your vid, but if you're still looking for examples, youtube is absolutely full of comics vids, good and bad. I particularly like ones where the original comics have been edited to some degree (cutting out individual panels or characters, changing dialogue, etc.), not just where full pages bounce around like screensavers. ;)
Hey there! Thanks for the "random driveby comment".
I actually haven't done the vid yet. Unfortunately, Real Life has been an absolute tyrant (a chronic complaint of mine, I'm afraid). So, your advice is still timely! ;-)
I'll admit that I haven't specifically gone looking at comic based vids on YouTube, but I have randommly come across a couple that do something like what I want to attempt - which is mix "still" comics with animated cartoons and live action footage.
The ones I've seen reply somewhat heavily on visual effects. I like them, but I don't want to emulate that per se.
I do know that I will be using some effects and transfrmations to get the different footage to "fit" together, but definitely don't want it to be all about the "razzle dazzle" of the effects. I've kinda got a story to tell, y'know? I want any special effects to enhance that rather than overshadow it. (Geez, that sounds pretentious, doesn't it?)
But anyway, cheers! Nice to chat with you, my random friend driving by! :-D
It's massively spoilery for both The Losers and Push, just fyi. I ended up finding that timing and blank space (i.e. the use of black) where really the most important things to me, moreso than movement, and I didn't use many effects... (Since I am lazy and pretty much did that in an afternoon as an off the cuff reaction to the ending of the comics, but I digress.) It doesn't have that high a proportion of comics stills to live action though.
So, I just skived off at work (lunch hour, okay?) to watch your vid.
Dunno anything about Losers or Push, but I really liked it. Might have to track down the movie at least - that bit with the shoot guys with hands/through window almsot made me LOL (and I'm at work!)
I do like the way you handled the different media. Simple is probably best, if you don't want to lose the point of your vid amongst excessive pyrotechnics.
Also had a quick look at yout YT page and Sherlock was the fandom that grabbed my attention. Gotta say your reactio to too many angsty vids totally cracked me up!
