The video stream opens up on Victor, a slightly younger Victor with longer hair, so long that she could probably reach back and braid it, if she wanted to.

"If you're seeing this video, I died. A week ago. I have a system... if my biological functions go offline, a week later this video goes online. That's to prevent a mistake, if the system ( Read more... )

"Explain," he says via handheld video feed, "right now."

He doesn't sound angry, just very, very terse. And concerned.

Yes, play to his love of power. That's one of the things that will work almost every time.

"So, leaving him alive puts you in a better position that simply eliminating him?" He eyes her for several long moments, searching her face for any sign that the sudden confidence was only an act.

"You have a fucked up sense of justice. But," he pauses and looks like he's about to look away for a moment before his eyes lock onto hers, "do what you've got to do to win."

It's not an act; it's one of the few things she still believes in. She used to believe in herself but that's been iffy since her body started failing her. She maintains the eye-contact, and she's not fidgeting (for once). "Leaving him alive means that what I do is worth doing, that I'm not like everyone else who does this job. It means that I won't lose it one day, that I'm staying strong, that I have a balance. A line I won't cross, and wavering on this, letting someone else do it, implying for a moment that I want it done... that would mean that I stop doing this job. Because I wouldn't be fit for it."

He leans back in his chair, the high-backed one they'd been snuggling in before she got killed. "Well, shit, girl, you sound like you really do know what you're doing."

He raises his free hand up with the palm to the screen, the other was still holding the computer-like thing he was using. "You take it, then. If I thought you were doing thing 'cause you couldn't deal with killing him, then I'd do it for you, or I'd make sure someone did. But," he pauses for a moment, "you got this. This is your shit, and I'm not going to mess it up."

She presses her hand to the monitor, too; her hand is so much littler. She hazards a sickish smile. "Thank you. You have no idea what this means to me. It pretty much means everything." She was really scared for a while that this would be a repeat of what happened last time.

"But," he says after a moment, "if this backfires, come get me and I'll make it right. Alright?"
