THNMY: Seeing the City by the Bay

Apr 13, 2008 10:29

Ali might be considered many things, but a typical tourist wasn't one of them. This was at least in part due to the fact that she went on so few vacations she didn't know how to be a typical tourist. Sure, she might have over-packed a bit, but it was hard to tell when there were so many people in the entourage. And how many people got picked up ( Read more... )

*Aramis is settling in very well. He's good at that: he makes places he's never been before home - mostly by simply being enthusiastic - yes, and pretty - at them. And considering he really doesn't want to go back to his real home at present...he is tying his hair up in a loose ponytail*

"Oh, we'll get attention," she corrects, "but not because of what we're wearing."

Ali's outfit includes sunglasses. The others are each offered a pair, if they'd like?

They can make it out of the hotel. The lobby, while expansive and grand, has the sort of air that makes particular sorts of acting out unthinkable. A couple of people walk into furniture though. It's very painful-sounding when they land on the other side.

*Aramis slides on his sunglasses and instantly looks like an A-list Hollywood star trying to be inconspicuous. If the glasses were huge and reminiscent of Elton John in his heyday, Aramis would still somehow manage this. He walks along elegantly between Samus and Ali, head turning at any sudden (or painful) sounds, his smile lingering on his lips*

Why, then?

*Samus, too, accepts sunglasses, and is only slightly disappointed when they don't include any apparent visor functions.*

No visor functions, sorry Samus, just light control.

"Because you two are gorgeous, that's why." She is continually baffled that Samus doesn't get that.

Maybe the unrelenting attention will be good for her? Because it's certainly living up to its name, once they're out on the street.

Ali uses her little tourist's guide to the city as a way to ignore the more obnoxious people. "Well, that depends on the neighborhood, Aramis. Chinatown is big and old and full of exotic things, Castro has pretty Victorian houses, Fisherman's Wharf has historic ships and I think an aquarium, the Mission District is the Hispanic neighborhood, Haight-Ashbury sells nostalgia to wannabe hippies, Nihonmachi has lots of Japanese shops and restaurants, Nob Hill has fantastic views, North Beach is largely Italian...

"Any of that sound interesting?"

*Aramis beams as they avoid a gaggle of other tourists. He loves busy. It reminds him of his home city*

My tastes are more secular than my mother would have liked for me....I wish to see the exotic! *his head turns to Samus* More, I mean, than I already am...

Old and exotic, I think. Chinatown, you said?

*She chuckles, although the constant attention is starting to throw her; she's used to her attire being common to the point of invisibility.*

And you're fully gorgeous in your own right, Ali.

"Chinatown it is." Ali looks around a bit, smiling at the compliment but otherwise not responding. "We have to take the cable cars. I think the stop is where all those people are lined up."

*Aramis, by the looks of things, is going to find cable cars every bit as fascinating as carnival floats and the lifts at the Eiffel Tower: he curls his elegant fingers around Samus' forearm as they move over to the queue*

I have not yet thanked you for inviting me, cherie Ali.

Nor have I.

*The idea of riding the cable car seems to amuse her; at this rate, it seems lifts and like conveyances are going to be a common theme of their outings.*

Thank you.

"You're both very welcome. It wouldn't be half so much fun without you two here." Ali hands them both their payment, so its ready when the trolley comes, then takes Aramis' arm. At least until the trolley comes. "Besides, I think we know I can't be trusted to go on vacation alone, I'd get into too much trouble."

I cannot believe it of you!

*Aramis' dark eyes are mischevious, though his expression is saintly*

*Samus' chuckle is low, dark, and knowing.*

Yes, we're the very last people to get into trouble, aren't we?

Ali looks innocent. "Who better to protect me from myself?"

*The musketeer laughs* Then who shall protect lady Samus?

Me?

*She scoffs.*

Who's watching your tailfeathers, peacock?
