Hangovers, of a sort [open]

There was a light visible under the door to Ali's, in the very early morning. For those with exceptional healing, pacing can be heard: human and canine.

There was a knock at her door. Victor had a gift for Ali, as a thank-you for her wonderful company when they found the rings the other day.

"He's very grand." She glances over at Victor, offering the word for her friend to try on for size.

She mouthed the word, tasting it, then said it softly. She looked at Ali with a pleased smile and nodded. "He is."

She smiles at the acceptance, her gaze drifting down to the tea preparations again. "He's always been that way, I think. A little bigger than life."

She followed her gaze, trying to commit the sight to memory again. "It's a good thin' to be, I think. It makes th' world difficult, though."

"Yes, that's true. It's hard to be comfortable in something that doesn't fit properly."

She checks the tea, then lifts out the now-spent leaves and drops them in the garbage before pouring. "How do you take your tea?"

"I dunno. However th' other person I'm drinkin' it wi' takes it, really."

She nods, adding cream and honey (She's very old-fashioned sometimes.) before offering one of the cups to Victor. "I hope he can find a happier life when he settles on someplace new."

She smiled and took the cup, holding it for warmth more than style. "Thank you. An' me too. 'M hopin' for that."

Ali wonders if Jas has told anyone else about the places he's seen. She'll try and remember to ask him when she gets home, and he isn't drunk.

She knows there will be a lot of drinking while she's gone. "Could you get the plate, dear?"

"Certainly." She switched the cup to one hand and took the plate in the other.

"Thank you." She takes her own tea and goes to curl up on the sofa. Civilized things are very comforting...she wonders if this is how Jas feels when she gives him things like this.

She set the plate down and curled up, too. It was a good way to warm up, to be on a couch with a warm drink.

"That's good." She smiles. "You'll get used to it soon, I'm sure."
