The prodigal one (finally!) returns [open to Count D and the household]

August had hit the city with a vengeance, making the temperature spike to triple digits and linger above ninety afterward. It was not suitable day for anyone in a delicate condition to go outside, and despite her protests otherwise Ali did fall into that category. So instead of going to the park to read and enjoy the sun, she was stuck indoors ( Read more... )

This was a visit the Count had been putting off. Not out of any lack of desire to see Alison, but out of a wish to allow his arm to regrow fully. No sense in worrying her, and in his mind a prolonged absence would worry her less than a missing limb. Not to mention that a child is much easier to keep hold of when one has two arms.

Whatever his reasons he's here now, holding a very alert and very curious baby in his arms. Said curious child is looking around at the door, at what he can see of this strange new place (place being the Nexus) from where they are. And also, trying to see if he can get hold of his father's hair.

The Count smiles softly at his son's attempts, before shifting him to one arm and rapping softly on the door. He still has his key, but.. best to do it this way.

The knocking wakes her, and with a little whimper of annoyance she turns off the television and sits up. The walk to the door gives her time to smooth her hair into order again and straighten her clothes, and plaster a smile on her face even though part of her wants to tell whoever's bothering her to go away.

She's really glad, really glad she doesn't say that when she sees who it is. That the Count is back is surprise enough, but the child...she stares at him for a minute, not even daring to breathe.

"Is...is that...?"

"He is," the Count answers, having shifted the baby into both of his arms after knocking. It might be noted that both arms are covered in long gloves, hands as well. "Might we come in?"

When Alison spoke the baby turned his face towards her, blinking big purple eyes at her curiously. She might be able to feel the child reaching out mentally, a bit clumsily but gently, towards the part of her mind housing her emotions. The baby is also eying her hair.

She's not moving. Not until she's got Delaine in her arms. She's too scared that this is a particularly cruel nightmare. So, instead of speaking, she reaches out and brushes a hand over the boy's hair to see if he's really there or not.
