That sounds so familiar, because my parents always try to top each other in being ill, and we're not even competition. Case in point:

My sister to my mum: "I need to check my temperature, I'm feeling a bit feverish."
My mum:"I have fever EVERY NIGHT."
My sister and I:"..." (Let's not talk to her about us ever being ill, okay? O.o)
