Profile page: I had little problem with it yesterday.

Then I slept on it, went back and looked at it again, then went to lj_design, which is apparently where this whole thing went down.

My response that will inevitably get lost in the 88 pages of comments:
Personally, I don't care about the profile page. It's a feature I rarely use ( Read more... )

It may seem a bit whiny of me, but why should I have to put lj-design on my watchlist? Surely if LJ is going to be all about making information available (as witness the new header in the profile layout, ew), they could start with the metaphorical beam in their own eye on that count?

There's been a big, shiny "beta" button up on the navigation bar for months now...

I don't mean the gray nav bar. I mean if you go to the normal LJ page in Horizon, right up at the top, there's a button labeled "beta!" with a shiny star next to it. AFAIK, Horizon is the default LJ viewing option, isn't it?

I'm just saying: there was warning. Some of us have been using that profile page for months now.

Okay, that's REALLY bizarre. I went to viewing options and changed to Horizon (apparently nothing was selected before), and the 'beta' button appeared. Whatever viewing option I was in didn't have it, and now I can't go back to the old one. Which... makes me oddly really sad, because I liked the old one and it apparently wasn't ANY of the options we have now. Fortunately I still had another window open to take a screen shot: here is what mine looked like before. Note the navigation bar, lack of a beta button, and how NOT bubbly it is. O__O

Anyway, my point is that the navigation bar isn't a good place to tell people "we'll be rolling this out." My main complaint is how they only communicated this in lj_design, changed it, and posted about it in news after they changed it. My main problem with LJ has always been about their horrible communication (hell, it's why I ran for the advisory board back in the spring); it reeks of bad customer service ( ... )
