Since I haven't posted in 2.5 years, here's the most random, disconnected post ever. YAY!

Firstly, alaerys tagged me.

Rules: Name three movies that you enjoy, which are (as far as you know) not well known. Then tag 6 friends. (I don't tag, sorry. Also, this was hard as fuck 'cuz I'm not a huge movie buff.)

1. Gattaca - I know a few people have seen this, and I know a lot of people have heard of it, but I think everyone should watch it, ( Read more... )

Gattaca is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I think for all its heavy-handedness is an incredibly important film. It didn't change my life, but it made me feel like someone else knew my story, and it gave me a framework to explain to other people how I am -- I never saved anything for the way back. It's a really gutting piece of cinema.

WORD, to both the favorite movie and how damn important that movie is. And it's significance really comes in two respects: our advances in science are already scarily close to those in the Gattaca world; and how will and determination can and will best natural advantage in the end.

And also, you are not as sick/weak as your doctor/parents/television is tell you, you are.

That movie, like The Truman Show (which came out the same year I think) is vastly ahead of its time, and both films I think are really only appreciated in retrospect.

but I'm still troubled by the arrest of the dudes who were white supremacists who were gonna kill Obama.

Yeah. It makes me very, very nervous. If Once he's elected, is this kind of behavior going to get worse?

YAY! Season one just sets the tone. Two puts some meat on the bones. Three frustrated some people, but I blame the writer's strike. Four has been working out to be insanely awesome.

I've heard about that - our local Free paper did an article on it a few years gack. I didn't know a movie was made about it, though. I'll have to check that out.

You know, I downloaded Gattaca but haven't watched yet. Maybe tonight. And, how much time are you expecting a co-mod to put in?

WATCH GATTACA. It is amazing.

As for modding, not much time: the most time consuming part is tagging untagged entries and sticking them into the community memories. I usually check every other day, but I'm often tied up on the weekends. It probably totals an hour a week or so. Let me know if you're interested; I might stick both you and extraonions on the job. :-D

I DID, and loved it. Though Jude Law pretty much broke my heart at the end. :(

Sure, I can do an hour a week easily. :)

Mmmkay! Check here, where I explain the tags and memories, and ask away if anything doesn't make sense.

And GAWD, yes. Jude Law is my guilty pleasure, but I still think that role was one of my favorites of his.
