No, he wasn't really, and he makes his way there to investigate. There really shouldn't be anyone in his stairwell, after all.

There is a Meredith at the foot of his stairwell! A... rather bloody, bruised Meredith, curled in a ball at the bottom of the stairs, holding her ribs and trying not to move until the pain eases again.

"What on earth happened?" is the obvious question as he kneels next to her, intent on getting a closer look at her injuries.
