No good, they don't have... How does this even work? I'll stay away from it for now...

[Rummaging noises come from the journal, numerous but careful. It sounds like someone is exploring the item shop.]

I apologize for bothering everyone, but could anyone recommend objects that are helpful to a household? Specifically, objects that are necessary for ( Read more... )

[... A small laugh. It just seems cute, this guy trying to keep things clean while being absolutely clueless.]

What sort of things are you finding? I'd recommending having a broom and mop, some cloth rags and soap... Let's see, "objects necessary for a new arrival". Are they living by themselves or with someone else?

We can't know everything, so it's better to focus on what we want to. ... But there's also certain things you have to know. I guess the trick is making sure you know what you need to know.

In that case, is there anything I need know about those lightbulbs? I'd rather not cause problems to my housemates, you see.

Well, let's see. You already know not to combine electricity and water... [Thinking: she doesn't want to miss something important, but she doesn't want to sound condescending either, and what would an adult who's never seen a lightbulb before need to know?]

If you ever need to take the bulb out, make sure it's been off for a few minutes before you unscrew it. The glass gets hot. And some lightbulbs use different amounts of electricity, and some sockets might put out different amounts of electricity for the lightbulbs. I think the Malnosso have made them all the same, but it doesn't hurt to doublecheck. If you put a lightbulb that uses more than the socket's meant for, it could start a fire.

Hmmm... I think those are the most important parts.

[Sadly, Cecil has no quill with which to take notes, but he makes note to write all of that down at the first opportunity.]

Wait a few minutes before touching it, be certain to use to right lightbulb, check the electricity on the bulb and the socket. I'll do my best to remember all of that. Thank you very much for your help, Miss...?

Since November, so a few months. We have technology like this back home, too.

That's a quite respectable amount of time. I suppose you had less trouble adjusting, then.

Respectable... That's one way to put it! But people have been here much longer than that.

I've heard talk of multiple years... Even this world's good points must lose their shine after all that time.
