Probably the best part was that the TVs in the restaurant were all set to the local station covering the riots, so my friend and I are talking, and suddenly we hear "...and another bonfire has been set on Atwood street..." and we both do this hilarious oh-fuck double-take what!?-thing.

I think we may have freaked out the guys at the restaurant by our complete nonchalance at the situation when everyone else was crowded around the windows. After we'd established the building we were in was not on fire itself, we kept eating and you kept talking. We could see our street on the TV from the helicopter half the time anyway and it's not like we could have done anything even if we'd wanted to.

Unfortunately, though I was rooting for the Steelers (as I always have), St. Louisans aren't quite as like-minded. I was alone in my happiness, though I remember some angry shouts and much stomping around (above and below my floor)...It was amusing in a frightening will-they-stone-me-for-liking-the-Steelers sort of way...
