Recs and Yuletide writings

So, I had a lovely December filled with ficcy deliciousness, or something like that.

First, two amazing fics I got this year:

Isn't That Always the Story? by jedibuttercup for wishlist_fic. This is a fantastic Firefly/The Mummy-verse crossover, with River sensing something not quite right about some ancient cargo they've brought on board. And of course, since Jedi ( Read more... )

Okay, so this is where I confess I'm in awe and also quite envious of how prolific you are. These days, I can barely manage the shortest ficlet, much less something longer, so, seeing this list... kudos to you :-)

I'll look forward to reading the mythology ones (I thought I had read all the Hades/Persephone on Yuletide, but I must have missed yours) and the Downton Abbey ones will be interesting too. I loved the first season a lot, but the second somewhat less, I have to say, which saddened me. I hope to regain my enthusiasm the third season!

On a side note, thoughts jumping from Life to Damian Lewis. Have you seen Homeland?

Eh, most of it is just that I have a lot more free time than most people, really. And since most of my pieces are very short as well, it's not as impressive at it might appear at first glance. ;)

On Downton: Yeah, I hated the timeskips and the predictability of the second season too, like pretty much everyone else, but the Christmas special made up for a lot of it imo. If the third season can stick with that tone more, I think it'll be all right.

I saw the pilot of Homeland, because I adore Damian Lewis so much, but since I don't have the premium channel it's on here in the States, I haven't seen the rest of the season yet; I should really go looking for it, because I did like the pilot a lot. I assume you're a fan?

Sorry about the late reply! It is impressive, though, because it isn't all about time, it's about inspiration and persistence too ;-)

I also liked the Christmas special better, and I read somewhere that the third season would take place during a shorter timespan, so that might be an improvement. The timeskips did make a mess of some of the storylines now. For example, did Sybil and Branson do nothing but talk occasionally near the garage for years?

I wouldn't say I loved Homeland, but it's definitely worth watching and the acting is really great, especially Lewis and Danes. Since you haven't seen the rest of the episodes, I won't go into specifics, but the reason I asked was that I did love a certain aspect of the show and was wondering, in case you had seen it, what you thought about that aspect. That sounds cryptical, I know, but at least it's not spoilery!
