The discussion that ensued after River had used the word 'pretty' to describe Mal was just great and so in character. It seems that she had absolutely no intention to use any other word to describe him, because that's the way she sees him :), and played the game accordingly. She sure knows how to make her case. In the end Mal's chances were to be called pretty, pulcher or with some repulsive word, and she even cleverly associated pretty with Serenity and brought out his principle of 'All or nothing'. Hmm... a tough choice for Mal :D
I really liked the other drabbles too! Mal better be not sick all over River ;)
Silly Mal, he ought to know that he's never got a chance to win in a verbal battle against River; she doesn't play by any rules he'd recognize, for one thing. Besides which, he is awfully pretty.
Aw, sweet. Adore the one with Serenity as third participant, and the 'pretty' conversation: “Only thing I know prettier than you is Serenity.” Because yes. ♥ And the no middle ground thing, too. The subtle detail work in your ficlets always makes me smile.
Yes, of course Serenity is more or less a living presence in their relationship - how could it possibly be otherwise for Mal? - and of course neither of them could think of anything more beautiful than the ship, with neither one being at all offended that the other thinks so. Serenity/Mal/River = best OT3 ever.
He doesn't ask, and she doesn't tell, just closes her eyes and holds on. Someday, she thinks, it will be real. So she will learn to be faster. That's very effective, the whole piece is. Especially since it's a probability, the way they live.
his thumb tracing circles along hers, an apology without words and putting her heart into the pressure of her fingers on his I really liked that, and how she's there waiting when he wakes, and I can readily believe that no one on the ship sleeps soundly.
So much love for the "pretty" one, of course that's the word she would use, and the one with Serenity as a third part in the relationship too (that's the only OT3 that works for me, actually - except Jack/Elizabeth/Pearl, which is sort of the same idea). I can't pick out favourite lines in those, because it's all just *happy sigh*
And the last of them is lovely as well, and funny, with Mal's drunken complaints and the way she responds. “I tell you all the time” ... “You just don't know how to listen.” :-)

Yes, Mal/Serenity is pretty much the far future version of Jack/Pearl, imo. No wonder we love them both. ;)
