"smart" ads

Last week I saw a really cool piece of technology -- a tiny cube that plugs into a smartphone that lets small-time vendors take credit cards. You can even sign your name using the touchscreen! It's evidently a venture co-founded by Mr. Twitter, whose name I don't care to look up ( Read more... )

We'll be acquiring one of said silly cubes soon....to handle credit card transactions at cons. Picked up the idea from windy city pulp and paper, who were using it attached to an iPad for signatures (for registrations.)

As for ads: adblock plus is your friend.

delete the ad network cookies (doubleclick google etc) and the ads will stop. Or, try ghostery, a firefox plugin which keeps track of what companies are doing this sort of third-party tracking and disables their ability to track you.
