A Slow Week

Well, slow regarding the publishing project.  After further e-conversations with my author rep, it seems that the only way to get the cover I want is to do a print ready cover and send it in or have them do a custom cover.  To do it myself will require acquistion of software I don't have, and which may end up costing nearly what a custom cover ( Read more... )

I think it's worth going to extra mile to get the cover you want it you can afford it. Are you going to use your own artwork? If so, even more important to get it right!

Naming your characters after presidents is an excellent idea! My original characters are few and far between but on the odd occasion I have come up with characters, I've taken their names from war memorials.

Also have Jackson, twice, plus the wife of one. Jefferson and Madison are also names borrowed from the list of Presidents. I have a Franklin as well, named not for Benjamin, but because that was a co-worker's maiden name. Sometimes the names just pop into my head, and at other times I have to search a bit. I've used classmates, friends, shipmates, etc. and at times have resorted to opening the phone book and blindly stabbing at the page.

Realized I forgot to answer a portion of your comment. Indeed I intend to use my art work. Daughter has indicated that she is awfully busy with school at this point so I'll be going with a custom cover via the self-publishing company I'm working with. My artwork and ideas, but their expertise in setting it up as "print-ready." Had Jessica been able (or had the time) to do it, I'm not sure we would have saved that much $. We would have had to obtain a specific PDF software, and that could have been expensive.
