As much as I love this twist, it seems a bit rushed.

Maybe another chapter or two in between....

Ditto. I'm kind of lost a few details in the middle there with Charles' talk about "joining her" and etc.

SO so sad to see it end!

Damn. I'm speechless.

*sits and thinks for a moment*

I'm rather sad to see it end, but love the ending...

The ending of this felt right to me - although I admit I was not expecting Charles to be turned by Mina. Going to Africa is nice, and the closure with a letter to Holmes works well.

A query, though, over the timing. Is 24 days, give or take, enough time to get to Africa - with his nephew - under cover of darkness?

This story moved and scared me, and I feel a sadness at its ending. Well done, Frank!

Hello, Deb! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this installment. Do you feel that the book would benefit from an epilogue by Holmes, perhaps something written to Watson?

I think that nearly a month on board a ship would be enough for these folks. They do have some small command of the weather, allowing the wind to aid them in their journey, and even the sunniest days can be made to have some cloud cover. Ultimately, I wanted the story to end on Halloween as a symbol that they'd all taken on different faces by the end.

I'm sad that this is (nearly) over - but I like where the characters end up. An epilogue by Holmes, set perhaps a few months later (after he's done some digging, mayhaps?) sounds like a good way to close off the tale.

And I noted the date of Charles' final missive, as it was also the date (although not the year) that I read it. It's a good symbol (v. reminiscent of Buffy S2 Hallowe'en, where they become their costumes).
