That's not actually what the song is. It's the perspective of the guy that's trying to get the girl, and narrating her part. The rest of the verse goes 'I said, "as luck would have it I was tossed by the throne. I let my Marion down some years ago and I traded my coat of arms for a guitar and some broken yellow lines."'
