The inhabitants of the Temple were all assembled in the Dining Hall. It was a large room with high ceilings, warmed by the fire in the fireplace opposite the main entrance and several smaller braziers scattered between the tables. The three large tables, normally set side by side, had been pushed against the walls to clear a space at the center of

And then the strange animals walk in.
She doesn't understand what's going on but...
"They're very talented!"
She smiles and continues to listen.
Reply
"CAPYBARAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH. MY. GOD!!!" she claps along with them while they play, smiling brightly as she ends up next to a girl with pretty hair that seems just as enamored by them.
"Ain't they just the cutest things?!" she asks sideways at her. "I would'a had one years back, but Bud an' Lou would'a eaten it.. HAH"

Then the clown girl turned to her and asked her a question. She sounds exited, but Kobato still can't understand a word she's saying.
Still it's rude not to say anything back.
"They're wonderful aren't they!"
She smiles and gestures to the animal things while she speaks.

For a moment this girl is more interesting than the herd of 'cute 'splosion' in front of her.
"I don't follow ya, toots," she says in a tone that matches her expression. "Uhh .." And then she does what everyone knows works well when speaking to someone that doesn't understand your language. She speaks louder.
"YA SPEAK ENGLISH, TOOTS??" She accompanies this with very helpful sign language that doesn't match her words in the slightest.

Kobato shakes her head and makes a talking motion with her hand. At least it might be a talking motion. It's either that or a duck.

"What is this?" she asks, confused as to why the girl is pointing to herself and making 'duck' signals. "It's like a .." And then her eyes widen and brighten with an eager excitement!
"CHARADES!! Or .. Whatever that game is!! Ya tryin' ta tell me somethin'!!" She seems quite proud of herself and also quite happy to play, although she couldn't imagine why here or now. Oh well!!!
"Uhhh, lemme guess .." She watches the girl pantomime and after a few moments her smile begins to slip. "Toots, I ain't got nothin' .. Ya wanna give me a hint or do somethin' other than that whole duck .. thing? Cause that's a really crummy clue if I can't get nothin' from it. I mean, I'm really good at this game. It ain't like I ain't a clown, ya know. This stuff is kinda my shtick.."

Kobato tries talking again.
"I'm sorry, but I can't understand what your saying."
She lets her arms drop as if exasperated, but it ends up as more as a plop. From a strange point of view it could be seen as flapping, like a bird's wings.

Harley listens carefully as Kobato speaks again, but it's all gibberish to her and she really has no idea what is (or isn't) being said. Then her narrow blue eyes follow the flapping motion of her arms and Harley just shakes her head.
"Kid .. It's great that you like ducks an' all, but .. I don't see what ducks gotta do with anythin' just now, ya know?"
She's going to give introductions a go, however, and points to her chest and states her name. "I'm Harley .. Harley Quinn." She does this several times and then finally points to Kobato, eyebrows rising high as if in question. "???"

The clown lady starts doing something else. It sounds like she's repeating the same word over and over again while gesturing to herself. Maybe...maybe it's a name!
She points at the clown lady.
"Harli Quen."
Then she points to herself.
"Kobato Hanato."

Harley beams and nods her head enthusiastically, "Yeah, Harley Quinn! HAH! Ya ain't half a dim a bulb as I was worried ya were!" :D :D
Then she is pointing at herself and seemingly doing the same thing. Harley listens and points to Kobato with a brow raising in question. "Ko-Bot-Oh Ha-Not-Oh? That's yer name, toots? Huh .. no wonder ya don't know what's goin' on. Ye ain't from 'round these parts, that's for sure!"
She's beaming brightly, though. "It's a pleasure ta meet ya, Ko-Bot-Oh!!"
Reply
Kobato bows, taking care that her bottle doesn't spill out of the basket hanging off her arm.
"It's nice to meet you Harli-san."
Reply
"What the heck are ya doin', Ko-bot-oh?" She's eying her rather skeptically and looking both confused and suspicious.
Reply
Huh? Why is Harli-san looking at her so confusingly?
Oh no!
"Did I do something strange? Was I bothersome to you? Fujimoto-san said that I was a strange person before. I'm sorry!"
As she gives her apologies she bows again.
Reply
"Whoa, toots, slow down," she says, holding up her hands in what she hopes is a kind of universal 'brakes' or 'slow' manner.
Annnnnnd, then she's bowing again and Harley's eyes widen a bit.
"HEY!! I've seen this on one of them late night game shows!!!!" She's pointing at Kobato now, seeming quite excited. "Yer one of them Japanese broads, ain't ya?!"
Reply
Huh? She looks even more excited now then before.
"What is it?"
Most of Harley's words are gibberish to her, but the word Japanese stands out. She knows that word. It was mentioned once on the tv. It's what English speakers call the language of japan!
"Ja-pon-nee-z"
Kobato nods her head.
Reply
"Uhh .. Doh-moh Arigato? Sushi? Jackie Chan???"
Yes, this is happening. No, I don't know how to stop it? Harley knows jack crap about Japan, and this still won't help with communication. Soooooooo .. God help them.
