Somewhere under his bed, buried beneath clothes and other odd ends, the incessant sound of constant beeping stirred a disgruntled man from his sleep. Lying flat on his stomach, the brunette's eyes fluttered open as he tiredly stared at the plain wall of his bedroom, reality starting to sink in as he realized it was morning and that with the light streaming in through the closed curtains, he would have to wake up and get out of bed. Annoyed at the prospect of leaving the warmth of blankets and pillows, he grunted and pulled the duvet closer, snuggling down with a smile into one of the soft pillows. He closed his eyes, letting out a content sigh as he felt sleep start to overcome him again when the alarm clock finally silenced itself.
After shuffling around beneath the sheets and finally finding a position that was comfortable, Yuu felt himself about to doze back off. He knew he had to get up-but the luxury of having a few more minutes to relax in bed coaxed him not to worry about starting the day. Besides, he thought with a smug smirk, it wasn’t like he had anything important to do. He could stay all day in bed if he so desired, without the need to commit to a schedule like everyone else.
With that firm mind-set, he pulled the blankets over the top of his messy, tangled head of hair to stop the sun from shining into his eyes, silently cursing the light for being so bright and disturbing him. For a few minutes, it was peaceful and only the annoying chirp of birds from outside perturbed him.
That was, until the door creaked open, something he had been expecting as it happened every morning. With an unknown anticipation, he listened to the soft pad of footsteps as the person he knew as his mother approached the bed with a disappointed frown on her face. Even though he was buried under his duvet, hidden away from her chiding glare, he could feel her form hovering over him and eventually, the bed dipped with the weight of her body as she sat down next to him.
“Yuu,” Kaede chastised with a frown etched onto her petite features, “Why aren’t you getting up?” she questioned, already knowing the answer as she reached to pull back the covers and expose her son. Yuu glared up at her playfully and tried to grab the blankets back, but Kaede was persistent and she threw them to the end of the bed before turning to look at him expectantly. Yuu stared at her blankly, as if he couldn’t believe what she had just done as he sat up on his elbows, before he fell back down on the bed with a huff, one arm slung over his face.
“I don’t want to.” he said finally. “I’m tired. I didn’t sleep last night. I want to sleep.” he managed to say as he wrapped his arms around himself, squinting as the sunlight hit his face.
“You have work today.” Kaede insisted as she watched the struggling emotions play out on Yuu’s face. He didn’t want to go to work today, so he stubbornly turned away from her and stared at the wall, which only made her sigh in defeat and lift herself up from the bed. “Well, at least get up and have something to eat?” she asked gently, this time more concerned about his health. At the mention of food, the brunet’s stomach seemed to gurgle in appreciation and he could only nod numbly, dragging himself from the bed with a noticeable grimace.
