Don saw it almost as soon as he walked in. He knew about the sketch artist from San Diego being there. Of course he knew. He was the one who had asked for his assistance before with the E-String Strangler case and hadn’t been able to get him then.
Now it appeared at least one of his deputies had decided to test him out. Naturally, Lamb wasn’t amused. Especially not when he eyed the sketch.
It was a girl, white, looking to be in her late teens, blonde given the faint pencil strokes for her nearly shoulder-length hair, then there was the smirk Carl had drawn for the girl; even in a sketch he couldn’t get away from her taunting. He approved of the devil horns however, though he could hardly admit it.
“Who did this?” Lamb called out to his deputies as he pointed to the drawing.
None admitted to it, not that he was surprised. But he was angry. Was Veronica not at the department enough? Did he really need a sketch of her in the middle of the office? The fact a deputy of his clearly took the artist away from his work for this joke didn’t make him any happier.
“Next person to do this is fired,” Lamb stated next as he ripped the sketch down.
Crumpled, he tossed it onto his desk. He knew it had to have been D’Amato. He had seen that stupid grin on the deputy’s face when she would walk in, he had seen them talking. He had known ever since he’d had to suspend him for the evidence locker having been left unlocked. He knew she had been behind it. He hadn’t been able to prove it but that was beside the point.
Still too angry to even see straight he forewent joining in on the sting Keith set up with his deputies for the mob guys from Chicago. He needed to cool off, not end up shooting suspects (or a certain deputy) on sight.
