I'm still seriously pissed that they didn't even have the decency to give the fans closure and announce that it was done - that is really crappy.

Seems like it has something to with it being more of a sitcom style, I read in another article that they kind of wanted to be able to make the order of the episodes shuffleable, which I doubt suited any desire he might have had to do some sort of character arcs. I'm sort of relieved. Now I don't have to check this show out and perhaps VM comics will be closer to reality with RT freed up a little.
