What's horrible? The fact that the ratings went up and "might" go down because of the hiatus when it airs again?

The ratings have *not* been horrible. They've been over three million, except for Halloween and I think it was just under the week of the elections. Otherwise there was a steady weekly increase, and this weeks figures and kicking arse and taking names.

This was just posted thanks to pifeedback forums:CW’s Veronica Mars (Viewers: 3.49 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 4). Not only did Veronica Mars hit a season high, it posted its best rating ever among adults 18-34 (2.0/ 6), it tied its best rating ever among adults 18-49, and had its second biggest audience ever. Retention out of Gilmore Girls was also improved at 72 percent in total viewers, 80 percent in adults 18-34 and 73 percent among adults 18-49.
So better than that!

Part of me just doesn't fault the show, and not just VM, when it comes to UPN/WB/CW. How do they expect shows to succeed at an extraordinary level when they [the networks] are the underdog and a very small blip on the entertainment radar? I realize we can't always point the figure at the networks, but at the same time they are the ones responsible for "selling" their brand.

Either way, last night was pretty cool, and if we don't get a S4, I just "ask" that the showrunners know well in advance so the show can go out with a bang.

This is great! Hopefully more people will start watching the reruns and get into it over the break.

I'd be interested to see how the ratings compare to the CW's ratings on other nights. I know ANTM does well for them on Wednesdays, but how are, say, Smallville and Supernatural doing comparatively? Or the comedy block on Mondays? Like roniabirk was saying, the CW has to bear some of the burden here. They're the smallest fish in a big pond filled with sharks equipped with lasers, and can't really expect ratings of LOST-like proportions. I think it's tremendous news that they're even nearing that 3 million viewer goal.

I mean, I'll be realistic about it and all. I'm not getting my VM:S4 tattoo just yet. But I think this is good news, and I'm hopeful!

I'm glad SPN is doing so well. (I wish it was a little higher. ;-)) The other edge I think SPN had coming into this is coming from theWB rather than UPN. I would argue WB shows have a better chance at retaining viewers because a lot of the stations that were UPN went away and the CW took the WB spot. No adjustment for those viewers. Still, go SPN!

For me, those numbers are a clear case of how deceiving the fandom furor can be! :P I learned how great the show was and started watching because of how many people on LJ were into it. I thought SPN was doing totally great... Then the other day I joined the LJ community for SPN and find that they're currently worried about being canceled, too. Totally blows the mind and really makes you wonder about the legitimacy of Neilsen ratings and their stupid boxes.

That being said, with SPN keeping above 3 mil considering the competition, you've got to give them their dues!
