Diamonds
To Duncan, Veronica is crushed diamonds, beautiful and broken and glittering from a thousand facets. He remembers a time when she was whole and princess cut and he could see his own reflection in each of her faces, but now she’s shattered and scattered and he knows he’ll never see all of her sides. Still he tries to scoop her up, make her whole again, set her into a familiar pendant he can wear around his neck. But her subtle sharp edges make his fingers bleed; he scrapes his arms on carbon dust every time he tries to hold her.
