US spending agreed, abortion is the impasse: Reid WASHINGTON - All financial elements of a US budget have been resolved between Democrats and Republicans, with the entire spending plan hinging Friday on an "ideological battle" over abortion, the top Democratic senator said.
With a midnight deadline fast approaching, bickering lawmakers have narrowed their differences but refused to finalize a spending measure for the fiscal year that would avert a dreaded federal government shutdown.
"Everything has been resolved. Everything," Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters, referring to negotiations over slashing tens of billions of dollars from federal spending.
"This all deals with women's health.... The debate has nothing to do with the number."
Actually, Harry, it's not even really about that. BUT HALLELUJAH, SOMEONE DID POINT OUT THIS HAS FUCK-ALL TO DO WITH JUST ABORTION. It's about the goddamned caveman-stuck addle-brained wingnuts who are apparently nail-biting frustrated that they can't control at least half the population in some very basic way and continue satisfying their corporate overlords with more expendable, uneducated serfs. (Actually, I shouldn't insult cavemen, since much evidence suggests they mostly didn't understand what caused pregnancy and probably didn't try to suggest punishing women even for miscarriages.) I won't even say it's a case of trying to control women, necessarily - they're just the easiest mass target because the crazies can hide behind a "BUT THE BAAAABEEEEEZ!" smokescreen. If they could find a socially-palatable way to justify controlling the average male as well - aside from the extremely religious (who obviously have never read what their real Jesus was like) - rest assured they'd leap at doing it.
The battle over funding for Planned Parenthood has nothing to do with women's health. It really has nothing to do with abortion, honestly, since PP is all about preventing unwanted pregnancies (and yes, this IS a public education concern for taxpayers deserving of some funding - anyone who doesn't understand how some measure of population control affects the allocation of tax dollars now and in the future needs to go back to high school economics and THINK a little harder). It's about control.
And the midline GOP had better wise up and get their collective head out of their collective ass and quit listening to a tiny, loud contingent whining that they're losing their white Eurocentric privilege, if they want to keep their jobs and pull a moderate vote next year.
