I love this SO HARD. The implications are fantastic.
And since I love both THG and HDM in big ways, this just made my morning.
(And I've loved kinkajous since playing Amazon Trail as a kid. Thought maybe he had some sort of small monkey but when you revealed the kinkajou, I was ten all over again.)

But no. If Finnick won the Games at fourteen, maybe she wasn't settled yet. Maybe, in the two years between him winning and the Capitol legally being able to sell him, they conditioned him into having her settle into what they thought would sell for the highest price. Maybe something like this, which on top of being powerful and sleekly beautiful, is also a naturally-occurring genetic mutation of a panther. Rah, rah, power to the Capitol and all that.
However, I don't know what the timeline is, re: him meeting Annie, but maybe his daemon DIDN'T settle how the Capitol wanted her to settle, for reasons nobody knew until he was allowed to be in District Four with Annie ("no, she crept up on me," etc.) Maybe their daemons both settled into shapes that subtly complimented the other, made them companions in arms ("no one looking at them could deny they were in love," says Katniss, who would of course be looking at their daemons, too.)

I adored the moment where Jazz brought Katniss two rolls after the evaluation with the Gamemakers. That was brilliant!
The Capitol people picking and prodding at the daemons was a very nice touch, showing another element in which the people of the Capitol are different and depraved in comparison to those who live in the Districts.
Love the Reaping scene, love love LOVE IT.
It was all fantastic! Would love to see you write more, if you were feeling so inspired. That would be awesome! :D
