Oh, god, did Spock feel her die? At first I thought it was Jim screaming, but then I had that thought. Also, Jim is totally going to 100% completely destroy that ship. Alien species, you are certainly extinct NOW.

OP here. I don't know how to feel. I made this prompt with the expectation that however Uhura was going to go, it was going to be her decision. She would stare Death in the face - but here, she didn't see it coming at all. And - shit, that's the most tragic thing. Dying without a cause, dying not even knowing she was going to. And just, to learn so much about a person, not to mention about all the people revolving around her life, only to have that axis ripped away so unexpectedly and senselessly, I can only imagine too well the void left in the people close to her, the void in the universe where she should have been, because I feel it too.

Emotionally devastating. You succeeded, damn you.

fjdkljfidsjflkdgfd I'm so sorry this reply is so late, but oh my god, thank you for such a difficult prompt! It was really hard to come up with a scenario on which Uhura would go on a suicide mission, because I feel like a) after Jim and Spock did it to her in Into Darkness, Uhura simply wouldn't let it get to that point, and b) even if it did, Kirk and Spock would pull rank on her and go in her place, so I went with avenue c) go with the idea that the Enterprise's mission IS a gambit that could easily get everyone killed in and of itself, and simply choosing to be part of the crew, day after day, is as brave as willingly deciding to go to your death. Maybe it isn't as grand as saving the universe against Nero or Khan, but it's pretty important, nonetheless.

But, man, I don't want to kill Uhura ever again ;____; that was painful to write.
