You know, this REALLY makes SO much sense when fused with canon. 'Cuz Rodney ONLY had lunch dates with Katie; otherwise, if he wasn't working, he was with John.

So, I can imagine how frustrated Rodney could have become, finally deciding to show John the "fake" engagement ring (that is so much more suited for a man, duh) and hoping that John would get a clue.

"Jealous" John makes a nice reversal of the more common "pining" John trope.
