I went to my favourite shop in Vienna recently. I think it's what you call a hardware store. I'm not entirely sure because there are so few of these places left. It is not part of a chain. It's just a store selling small goods you need in the kitchen or in the garden. Pots, pans, glasses and mugs, sieves, knives, kettles, heart shaped baking forms ( Read more... )

AH! *That* shop. Messerkönig. No that is a shop that sells only knives and sharpens them. And it has a sales person with the most beautiful voice ever. Once, at one of my favourite clubs, I saw him and he smoked dark brown cigarillos, maybe that's the secret of his voice.. :-D

they don't have to be. I'll still visit them as well and check out their stuff. But my heart belongs to the hardware store.

I love the little independants. The shopkeepers have such a good knowledge of their products, and when you go back, almost always remember what you asked about the previous time
