Having decided that I need to write more porn (don't ask), I went and had a look at the prompt page for the last Porn Battle. It's over, but I figured there would be something there to inspire me. Scrolled through the fandoms sections, until I hit the historical RPF section, and found this:

Pliny the Younger/Publius Cornelius Tacitus, boar, ( Read more... )

squeeing, slash goggles activate!, tacitus/pliny, geeky things, i ship it like burning, what am i doing with my life?, pliny the younger, tacitus, roman empire

If I ever forget why I love you, I think this might be a great way to remind myself. XD

This is a thing of beauty. And I barely know anything about these guys. (I KNOW, I AM AN UNEDUCATED BRUTE, I'M SORRYYY DD8)

My god, I love the internet sometimes.

Oh, stop it, you. I'm blushing. XD

AAAAH YOU MUST FIND OUT, because I adore these guys to bits. Basically, Rome's greatest historian and his lawyer friend from Como, who are occasionally known to form an epic tag-team to bust corrupt provincial governors. And Pliny wrote Tacitus two letters describing the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, which he witnessed first-hand.

You'll probably touch on Tacitus once you hit the Empire part of your course (if you haven't already). I hope you do. I have an insane sort of love for his caustic moralising. Also the fact that he wrote about Scotland. XD

The internet truly is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

Yay! I'm convincing people who don't even know them! :DDD

I don't know how much you do know about them, but Tacitus was (arguably) Rome's greatest historian and wrote damning criticisms about the excesses of Imperial rule, and Pliny was well-known in the legal field. He survived the eruption of Vesuvius when he was eighteen, and later described it to Tacitus in letters. He wrote lots of letters. And he and Tacitus teamed up to prosecute the governor of Africa of corruption. So much potential for epic fic. :D

Isn't it, isn't it? XD

Currently resisting the urge to flick through Pliny's letters to see what else I can corrupt with my slash goggles. But you know me, I have no willpower when it comes to this sort of thing... ;)

It just makes perfect sense.

Sadly I only have Pliny in Latin and I have no intention of starting translating at 10pm not when I've got X-2 to play, but I'm sure you're slash goggles are better than mine. ^__^

Oh, you're fucked now! Well, that's a completely understandable reason.

I have the complete letters in translation, so I've been having a thumb through. I've found some gems so far. XD (With slash goggles on and tinhat set at a jaunty angle, naturally!)
