Battlestar and Babylon - something to watch while BSG is in hiatus?

If you want something else to watch, while you wait for the last ten episodes of BSG and the premiere of Caprica, may I suggest that you flick your monitor to Babylon 5? You can watch most of the series for free: seasons 1 and 2 appear in full on both Hulu and AOL Video, with season 3 on AOL Video, and more added all the time.

I'm most impressed with that list of writers for the show.

Available for free! Awesome! Maybe I'll give it a shot later this summer.

Excellent post! Thanks a lot. I've heard so much about Babylon5 but never got a chance to watch. Thanks for summarising the most important (?) eps to watch... though I guess the hiatus will leave enough time to watch all episodes... Too bad hulu isn't available in Europe; aol does work.

Well, for time being we have two more weeks of soccer left *g*, then I still haven't watched BSG 4.10 (no hurry, really). Also, I heard that lots of people who like BSG also loved this show called Firefly, so I decided to check that one out too.

Hiatus shouldn't get boring this way. Still annoying though.

Thanks! Those eps are all from the 1st season, if you want to pare out a few that aren't quite as salient to the next 4 seasons. Most people prefer season 4 above all, because everything really comes together, but my favorite is season 3. It's really intense and gets nice and dark!

AOL does have 1 more season than Hulu currently, so that's a benefit.

Firefly, I didn't really get into, though I liked Serenity and I loved Nathan Fillion (the ostensible lead in FF) in a little indie called Waitress. Quite drool-worthy, that one.

I think Babylon 5 was my first fannish love, even though I didn't know fandom existed back then. I love all your character parallels, particularly Kara/Ivanova and Roslin/Delenn.That said, I haven't watched it in so long that I'm not sure what you're referring to here:

In fact, one of the most evocative moments in the BSG miniseries, suggesting a parallel with our Earth, also happens in the episode "Chrysalis".

I may have to link this post when I try to hook new people - the first season can be a bit of a stumbling block.

Spoiler Warning for first season verdantpine June 20 2008, 12:38:50 UTC
Thanks!

This is a big, big spoiler for the first season of Babylon 5....and I have no idea how to do spoiler text in a reply yet (still new, grumble) so I'll make it really small in hopes people avoid getting spoiled... Do you know what tag I need to use so I can fix this?

I'm referring to Clark ascending to the presidency, just as Roslin does in the miniseries. They both use visual cues to make us think of the JFK assassination.
