Apparently, it's not as bad as it seems? I dunno, I'm not inclined to watch this show either.

*Looks at other comments* um, nope, me neither, but then the shifters in there were pretty much a guarantee of me not watching in the first place *yawns* ;)
And added teens? Hell no

Teens and the supernatural isn't my thing either.

That's Stiles. He's a human who said that in show in reference to his comparative weakness and as a joke at the time.

He has been beaten up by a villain. At the end of season two he and a guidance counselor even discuss his hypervigilence. However, that picture, that degree of injury, the claw marks, and the nudity are NOT canon. That is a lot of artistic license.

It's referring to something that happens at the end of the second season. The only human boy of the group, Stiles, gets beaten up by the villain, so that when his best friend, who's a werewolf, sees him, he'll lose his shit and their whole carefully crafted plan will go to waste. By the way, the actual scene lasts a couple of seconds, and we only see a couple of bruises on Stiles' face ( ... )

I was just really baffled about it, because I'd seen some other things about the show and its propensity towards violence in interpersonal relationships go around. But thanks for explaining, that clears a lot up.

No problem! One of the things I love about this show is that it has a very unique, beautiful way of talking of serious topics. One that striked me the most was that one of the guys was in an abusive relationship when he was fifteen, with a woman who was at least seven years older than him. He fell in love with her, she slept with him to get the info she wanted, and then killed his entire family. What I found amazing was how the writers chose to portray something so horrifying: even if it was the woman who was the predator, they showed how it was horrible and wrong and horrifying, exactly as if it had happened the other way around. In other words, I was surprised they didn't go for the horrible, and yet way too diffused way of seeing it as "since he was a guy it can't be rape ( ... )

Okay, that might explain some of its popularity, I guess :).

I see nothing good about it. An inherently abusive Sterek (I assume it's Stiles) relationship as portrayed by many authors really pisses me off. The underage thing is more than enough, please no need to add extra violence.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. Underage thing? I don't watch this show, so I have no frame of reference.

I'll cut in to answer this one - The main characters are almost all 16 and 17, as opposed to Derek, who's somewhere in his early 20s. It really depends on how you define underage though, because several states have 16 as the age of consent.

Ah, okay. I'm used to 16 being the age of consent, so I was surprised.

There is an episode where Stile is captured and smacked around by the big bad - and sarcasm is his only defence because he's a normal teenaged boy and not a werewolf or trained hunter

This seems to suggest some kind of ongoing abuse which doesn't exist in the series at all. I suspect some dubious "sterek" shipper's hurt/comfort fantasy.

I hear very strange things about the supposed main pairing of this show, usually related to domestic violence. Thanks for clearing this up!

The main pairing? Scott and Allison? I don't think there's ever been any kind of domestic violence there per se, though he has gone wolfy near her when he didn't have perfect control but he kept away and she has come close to fighting him since she's a hunter -but I think it's more star-crossed lovers

I meant Derek and Stiles... I suppose that fandom grossly overestimates the actual airtime for these two?
