I like all the layers to this and the progression. Rachel and Danny's problems feel real, all the small fights and angry outbursts, than the apologies and the fumbling to make it work. They're trying but it's hard.
Steve and Danny's relationship is on a different track form passionate sex out of raw need and release to attempting to get to know each other despite all of Steve's barriers. And Steve has so many and they're so hard to navigate and underneath them all is lot of vulnerability and pain. I like how we're getting the tiniest pieces to him and the small moments of comfort they offer each other.
I've been suspicious of Trent since he hurt his hand, not getting good vibes from him. Hmmmm.
I worked really hard to make sure that Danny and Rachel were as realistic as possible; I wanted to do them justice, so \o/!
And Danny and Steve... The only way this fic could work, when I conceived of it, was to make the attraction between them something that they build on, rather than the whole thing, if that makes sense? Plus, this was kind of my n00b love letter to Steve, tbh :).
One of my alpha readers said at some point, "...so, Trent is kind of a bastard, isn't he?"
This is a great fic and you need to post it on A03 where THOUANDS of people will read it. Please consider doing that. If you need an invite code I will give you one. You know, I never have much cared for the AUs where Danny meets Steve in Jersey. This one is an exception. The questionI have is how are you going to work in the canon of the series. I can't wait to find out. Maybe you won't, which is cool too.
