You're the first person I've seen who loved it. I've not seen it yet, myself, and I must admit I was *that close* to not bothering, given what I've read elsewhere (which makes me sad, given how eager I used to be to watch each new episode). Now you have me intrigued and I'll *have* to watch it!
Really? I absolutely adored it. I'm grinning like an excited loon, and I wasn't expecting too much of it. Watch it; then let me know if I'm the only one, please.
Thank you. I didn't adore the ep, but I didn't hate it either and there are parts of it that are definitely going on my favourite Five-0 scenes.
It's no secret I don't like Lori and the parts I didn't like were things that she was involved in. Not all of them, but sometimes she grates on me like she doesn't belong and they don't know what to do with her. which means they pass her around like a hot potato and sometimes they drop her and sometimes they don't.
But, OMG, no matter what crap some people want to think/say about AOL there are scenes where he is so stunning and subdued and absolutely nails the meaty scenes that they give him. I just wish they would do it more often. Tonight he was almost back to his slowly unravelling Steve of 1.24, but at the same time he now knows most of the score and he's right on there too.
Two things aside from that? They need to get back to Danny and Steve time, and is it wrong that I want to see and Adam/Steve fight scene.
I loved it, the plot kept my attention and the b-plots were brilliant. It's not perfect, but hey, it's Five-0, so I'm good.
I don't like Lori either, and I'm never going to accept her, but like this I can tolerate her, when she's not pushed to the forefront or too ridiculously talented. (Nice metaphor on the potato comment :)
AOL has had his weak spots this season, but when he's good, he's great, and what I love about him is that he doesn't play Steve like a blank slate emotionally every ep; he builds on past experiences, and watching Steve slowly unravel, indeed, is gorgeous and yet not repetitive. He rocked this one, seriously.
Totally agreed we need more Danny & Steve time; yes. That's missing and I'm beginning to notice, even though they've been hiding it well sometimes. And no, totally not wrong, unless I'm being wrong with you, because I alternately want to see them have angry hate sex or fight. Umm.
You look at his weak spots this season, most of them have been with Lori. There has to be something in that. but it seems they're starting to find a happy foil, they don't often have scenes one on one together any more have you noticed?
I love the way he plays the whole Wo Fat plot line more and more. He has his flat spots but they're almost nevver when it's anything to do with 'his' plot line, and on a second watching I've noticed something else. He's back at his 1.24 intensity but last season he was unravelling, this season he's reeling himself back in, or more to the point he knows where he fucked up in the past and now he's coiling for the strike and I think that may be even more intense than the unravelling.
I agree with that; at the same time, other actors have had one on one scenes with her and rocked them (Scott Caan comes to mind.) She's not a very good actress, but he should be better than that. Still, I noticed, and it makes me happy.
Me, too. I love him when he plays anything emotional; be it when he dropped the guy off the building or something else in the case, or when he deals with the deep intensity he uses in the Wo Fat plotline. He is, like I said above, subdued in intensity and that, yes, resembles coiling himself (the way he played how Steve got Joe out of Adam's house, OMG; so much power in that -- compare it to the confrontation with Jameson in 1.24, my god) for the strike and the intensity is taking my breath away. I love this show, so much :).
You're not alone I loved it to the people who didn't like it are mostly the Steve/Danno shippers I think okay there was not alot of them but this whole episode was a set-up for 2.14 and I agree Alex O'Loughlin rocked this episode his performance was STUNNING! he really showed what a GREAT actor! he is.
Was great to see there was more Kono and some core 4 scene's which still are my fav. of the show
I have to confess I missed the humor we mostly see but I think we get that back after 2.14 I'll will be happy when this whole Shellburne case will be over for me they drag this to long and hope Joe will be gone just like Lori both become so annoying.
I'm a Steve/Danny shipper, but not to the exclusion of everything else; I also love the show and am a total Steve fangirl. So yes, I watch for more than just Steve/Danny :). You're probably right.
O'Loughlin, wow. I knew he could do this, but it is gorgeous to see it, isn't it? Stunning, indeed.
The humor is, I think, for the in between eps, yes. I love me some good drama so I miss it less than others. I love the Shelburne plot and am happy to watch it ride out, but I can understand that people just want to know. I love Joe because I love the conflict he represents; Lori, I wouldn't care if she dropped over a cliff face in the next ep, seriously. She has contributed nothing.
Your post makes me feel better about the ep--makes me like it a little more. Thank you for that. :D Alex was pretty darn awesome, and I'm very impressed by Ian Anthony Dale. His character works and I love the tension between Adam and Steve. I'm not that fond of Joe, though, probably for the shallow reason that he takes screen time away from the Steve and Danny show. So I'm not very engaged in his storyline.
I was very happy to see Chin so involved with Steve's story, and questioning Steve about Joe's loyalty. We got lots of Kono, too, which is always a happy thing!
I seem to be a minority in liking this ep so much; I'm glad it was helpful to you! O'Lough is just... I think I had my mouth open undignifiedly for about, ooh, eight minutes at the end there, and well, I loved Adam from day one. (What can I say, I'm totally shallow.)
Joe... Fandom loved him at first and I hated him, and somehow that flipped, oddly. But yes, I'm definitely going to complain if we don't get some good Steve/Danny stuff soon. (Truth is, Joe and Lori have been doing that in the past, and I stomach Joe much better than I do Lori, so yeah.) I love to see Steve angst, so I get something out of those scenes even if it isn't my OTP.
Chin! Yes, god, I love the Chin/Steve interaction lately, esp. given Chin's history. It should be Danny, but I'm okay with it so far. And Kono! She was rocking this so hard, I love her.
I'm a Steve fangirl, so... I can see where you're coming from; if there was less Steve in an ep, I'd be unhappy too, and we've had too little of Danny lately. (Next week, apparently, I've been told; I'm a spoilerphobe, but sometimes I can't help myself.)
Me, too! This ep passed the Bechdel test, which was pretty darn awesome. And Kono, ah, I've missed her.
I really liked this episode too and before reading your post was beginning to think I was the only one (I'm getting used to being in the minority when it comes to liking things in this show. Hell, I like Lori and I'm not ashamed to admit it.).
Terry O'Quinn is playing Joe brilliantly - I've been using word ambiguous a lot when it comes to his character so I'm glad that someone else is using it too.
The episode was lacking a little bit in Steve/Danny scenes but I think it made up for it in other areas.
We seem to be a bit of a rarity this week :). (I don't like Lori, but I hope you won't hold that against me.)
Ambiguous is really the only word, isn't it? (I imagine it's scrawled on his character bible and underlined several times :P) I love Joe's ambiguity, I could watch him and Steve forever.
Yeah, it definitely did, wow, I adored this. Glad to hear someone else did, too!
We do seem to be rarities. I was really surprised when I read other peoples comments after posting my own. I really thought others would like it too.
I won't hold you disliking Lori against you, as long as you don't hold me liking her against me.
It really is. It just suits the way the character is being portrayed. I like the stuff between him and Steve. They have a complicated relationship at the moment. I think Steve really wants to trust him but is so confused by his actions right now.
Me, too, I thought fandom would take to this one much more.
Yay, I won't :).
I love watching Steve struggle with trusting Joe (I am heartless when it comes to watching my fave characters angst, sorry) and Joe not do the right thing for him, and well. I'm eager for the next ep, let's say :).

I just had a look and saw some people who didn't like it, which, well, I guess they look for different things in the show.

I'm also totally loving that icon of yours, OMG.

I did like that Kono and Lori got to chase down a suspect together. Kono was all kinds of awesome in this one.
