This description just fits to a tee how I feel about fandom. From caras_galadhon, here:

I love it fiercely and deeply, and it has given me far, far more than I could ever have asked. Even in the moments where I want to set fire to the internet and scream and bang my head against the nearest brick wall, I know it's never not going to be a part of me.

I can't give it up; I give up individual fandoms, but I never leave the greater community :).

No, I know a few people around the community who don't want to see it. But I also know a lot of people who are going to give it a try.

Yeah, changing fandoms always makes me feel guilty, too! These days I know to go where the muses go, but yeah, still sad. But I take many, many friends with me :).
