Sweeney Has Come!

Feb 22, 2008 14:26

I celebrated Alan Rickman's birthday by going to the cinema and watching Sweeney Todd last night.

I liked it!

Random - and obviously spoilerish - thoughts about the film behind the cut )

I'm so glad to hear that you were pleased with the movie! I guess you made it back to your car or transportation afterwards without being afraid, then. Nice icons!

I got a parking space surprisingly close to the door. ;) And it really was too over the top to get actually frightened.

And so did I. Enjoyed it too and even looked at the bloody scenes although I'm very squeamish.

I'm only squeamish when it comes to real blood, and I'm really scared by horror films, but Sweeney Todd was just fine.

PS. Did you forget to log in?

Glad you finally got to see this and enjoyed it. Sondheim is a genius, but I'll admit he's also an acquired taste.

Go check out my reviews on this when you have a minute. If you liked this, you'd probably adore "Into the Woods."

I've never really been interested in musicals (with the exception of My Fair Lady) so that I might be wrong, but I believe that both Stephen Sondheim and Sweeney Todd aren't very well known here in Germany. Sondheim's songs obviously aren't as sickly sweet and hummable as Andrew Lloyd Webber's are, which is a good thing, but when I listened to a few excerpts on YouTube they didn't grab me really. Perhaps it was because they were out of contest. But watching the film I did like to listen to them, and they fitted the plot very well.

Have been watching the movie in English and seem to be the only one who didn't like it for several reasons.

Wonderful icons, though!!!

I watched it in English as well.

I more than doubt that you are the only one. At least at the imdb.com board for the film there are quite a lot of people who didn't like it. What about the film did you not like? The story, the actors, the singing, the visuals?

Would you think so? Bit of comfort to me.:)
I had a discussion on my thoughts of ST this morning. If you like to look it up you may find it HERE.

Well, even if you were the only one, who cares? One can't and probably shouldn't always like everything the masses like.

Nice icons!
Yes, yet another "He's dead but he won't lie down!" role for Rickman;)
Glad you enjoyed it. We are showing it at work in three weeks so I am definitely watching it again.

Thank you.

I definitely will see it again as well at the end of next month. There's also a nearby theatre that shows a stage production - in German, of course, but nevertheless I think I will give it a try.
