I just about killed over dead last night. I got the Global Economics test studied for, Africa memorized (and just as quickly forgotten), the paper written and submitted, and kept the job. In fact, they want us to come in Monday too. Yay for a full 40 hour paycheck! All this work tired me out, and I just slept most of yesterday evening. But ( Read more... )

To you, the word Friend means someone dirt close to the heart. You can only have so many and they take years to form. A good synonym for this might be companion.

To her, the word Friend means someone you just met and is nice to you. She has no problems with being absolutely open and expects everyone to be completely civil to her. A good synonym for this might be acquaintance.

Simple naivete. I applaud you for not just going with it and keeping her in the dark like so many others do. I could also break her of this for you if you like.

The other option is to treat the word friend like acquaintance when she says it, and explain when you don't tell her stuff that it usually takes you time to open up to people. Appeal to her sense of curiousity and horrid past and she'll probably eat it up enough to do things how you want them.

people at that "place" are ridiculous...when i worked there nor did i personally care for what anyone had to say. I bullshitted with people and tried to hang out with people my own age if only to make the day go a little faster. I'm kinda like you... i make lots of "aquaintances" and stuff...i might call them friends and such..but really that's what they are... i make "friends" easily though - depending on certain elements.

overall though, i only consider people i've really hung out with for a period over 6 months to be what i would call a real friend. - it's interesting, isn't it, how different people are when it comes to friends?

Nick, of all the people I know, you are the one who has the hardest time opening yourself up to novelty, whether it be new experiences or new people. It takes you an awefully long time to develop trust, so it's natural that you didn't actually make a good impression on this girl. Of course, I hope you didn't do that thing people generally do at work, where you act like you'd rather be anywhere else, because that could definitely give the girl the wrong impression.
