Was it a continuity flaw, or was there a reason for Dean getting dressed up, then (it looked like he was) in his speed suit for the lawn-summoning, then back to being dressed up again?

I never even thought about that, but you're right. I guess that's why most cartoon shows and animators don't change their character's clothes often.

I don't know about there being no use for her, but it does certainly diminish her role. She is training to be a sorceress, though, so there's always that.
