I seem to spend a lot of time when out and about thinking something that basically boils down to "honestly, why do people have to be such dicks?"

I find that for every dick or chamless nerk there are five or 6 nce people! I was in London last weekend and spotted two ladies looking lost at the tube station. I was able to tell them which train they needed and by the time it arrived they had invited me to stay with them in South Carolina, pick me up from the airport, show me Southern hospitality and prove that Americans can be as hospitable as Brits. I thought that was charming.

They have a crazy name.

Most of the time (most of the time) people will take their cues from the people around them. I've tried this myself as part of my body language observations. You are nice to them, they will react positively, and vice versa. Keep it up!

I agree that acting nice to people has a very positive effect. Most of the time when I'm wishing people weren't dicks they are usually people who are just in my vicinity, rather than people who are actually interacting with me!
