So I mixed up the batter and she licked the beater

Lots of people have been doing a 25-days-of-Christmas thing, answering a different question each day, and I've been enjoying reading their answers. I haven't been doing it myself, because I've already banged on endlessly about Christmas ( Read more... )

Well, I take my hat off to you for conducting this crucial research! And I must say that your report confirms my suspicion that I'm probably better off sticking to mulled wine, as I don't even like custard anyway. I can't imagine baleful scum would improve it very much. :-)

Actually, I do like custard but the mouthful or two I tried of this on its own was rather bland as a drink. The baleful brandy actually improved it (tastewise) no end!

Dear lord that 'beef log' looks vile... like a tube of corned beef.

I do love corned beef, but agree that for Christmas maybe a nice bit of rare topside, sliced for sarnies, is the better way to go...

I always confuse eggnog and advocaat. I reckon it's because advocaat looks like Birds custard gone wrong.

I'm not sure they're really that different! I think advocaat might only have the yolks in, though, not the whites. Advoccat is brilliant on pancakes...

OT: Grand Marnier is better on pancakes.

Excellent work, I had occasionally wondered if it was worth bothering to try, and now won't.

There's always Advocaat if one wants boozy eggy drinks of a more reliable consistency.

It is entirely possible that the dicey consistency was my fault, and that a superior or more experienced eggnogger would produce a higher quality of beverage.

Call me retro, but I do love a Snowball at Christmas - they're basically like a boozy icecream float, only without an actual chunk of icecream ;)

And this year I've been cunning & stocked the freezer with wedges of lemon & lime for drinks - they'll serve double-duty as icecubes without watering the drinks, AND no more going to the fridge to discover the sad mummified remains of a half-lemon wrapped in clingfilm!

stocked the freezer with wedges of lemon & lime

Why have I never thought of this!?

Yukky yuk yuck! I was given advocaat as a child and found it repulsive, and eggnog... well your description has solved a nugatory mystery for me. I am delighted to have never been threatened with or offered the stuff in my entire life!
