So, last night a controversial bill passed its third reading. This isn't obvious: even the BBC carries only a mashed-over story covering people's comment on what would happen if the bill were passed, with a sentence buried a couple of paragraphs in mentioning that it was passed last night by a majority of 142. Is there a rule about not reporting ( Read more... )

Ah. Cheers.

So...despite writing to me a few days ago that "I think it is ridiculous to take this before the House for one day's debate as this would allow insufficient scrutiny and I think this would be best returned to the House by the next Government", my MP didn't think it worth showing up to vote.

Bah. Judging by his request for my postal address, I'm going to be addressed in writing on the topic. I shall look forward to that :)

Mine didn't vote either. Not that he'd have been voting on the right side, but I'd already half-composed the angry email about it...

From the communications I'd have from mine, I had been led to believe that he was against the bill. I foolishly thought he'd therefore be voting against it.

Still, I guess a half-hour train ride is a lot to take on to get to Westminster of an evening :(

This has handy features such as which way your MP voted and thing that notifies you via email whenever your MP speaks in parliament - http://www.theyworkforyou.com/

I found it really interesting when I discovered the only two questions my Liverpool MP raised were about chickens and a housing development near Solihull. Surprising when you consider his constituency is in a fairly built up area 200 miles away from the midlands.

Yup, I waffled about theyworkforyou.com yesterday. It gets its voting data from Public Whip, though, so also isn't up to date at present. It's a really useful resource, though, I approve.

Bah. Work instead of LJ ? What kind of an ethic is that, man! Have a sense of priorities!

(Good luck with getting the degree neatly sewn up, though.)
