Home of the brash, outrageous and free

A couple of times recently I've mentioned http://www.theyworkforyou.com, and been surprised at the number of people who don't know about it. It's dead simple: type your postcode in, and get a random bunch of information (eg voting record on big issues, attendance record, links to speeches ( Read more... )

information, politics, election

Mine apparently didn't show up either. But then, I wasn't going to vote for him anyway :)

Unfortunately my MP is this guy, so what I really need is a site that helps me pretend he doesn't exist.

On the plus side I never actually meet these people face to face since this area's so blue they don't even need to get out of bed to win the seat.

I was quite surprised to find out she was a Conservative - it doesn't fit with her upbringing or what I remember of her personal politics at all. I suspect her of joining the party most likely to get her elected, IYSWIM.

I admit to not really thinking of the area as particularly prone to Toryism (it reminds me of East Oxford, which is firmly NOT Tory) but then I last lived there in 1991...

More power to these sites. When your MP makes McCavity look high-profile, both in the constituency and in Westminster, you know exactly why his party is, this time, fielding an "I live here, I'll be around, I'll work for you" candidate. But now we can check!

See also yournextmp.com, containing candidates for the general election.

If you volunteer to wander the internet looking for missing candidate details, you might win a duck house :) though you do have to visit the BNP's website occasionally. But they rarely have contact details online so it's generally a waste of time.

Mm, and the associated http://www.democracyclub.org.uk/

It'll be interesting to see if the hordes of people who've suddenly discovered the existence of democracy, under threat of having their internet cut off by the DEB, will take that forward into monitoring MPs' accountability on other issues.

It might not be fair to call that the idiot list. It's almost certainly dumb for example to regret that the committee ignored 74 trials that presumably were cherry-picked (I'm pretty certain there have been more than 74 trials on homeopathy, everywhere, ever). But look at the list of signers: Frank Field, Glenda Jackson, Bob Marshall-Andrews, Diane Abbot, Harry Cohen, Stephen Pound. That's the "What are we rebelling against? What have you got?" crowd. Maybe it wasn't a very good committee report.

Anyway, there are a lot more idiots than you think, including militant Labour and 40 of 63 Lib Dems: http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=33006&SESSION=885

Don't worry, he signed that one too (Stephen Pound is my MP).
